MeshCore is growing fast across Europe. If you are new to mesh networking or have been curious about joining, this article summarizes everything you need to get started.
Choose the Right Device
The most important thing for European users: buy an 868 MHz device. Devices sold for the US market operate on 915 MHz, which is not legal to use in Europe.
Popular choices for beginners include:
- Heltec V3 — Affordable and widely available. Great for getting started with a companion app setup.
- LilyGO T-Beam — Includes GPS, good for outdoor use and location sharing.
- LilyGO T-Deck — Standalone device with a built-in screen and keyboard. No phone needed.
For a detailed comparison of all supported devices, check our device catalog.
Flash the Firmware
Once you have your device, flash the MeshCore firmware using the web-based flasher. It takes about five minutes and works directly in your browser. No special tools needed.
Our step-by-step guide walks you through the entire process.
Connect to the Network
After flashing, pair your device with the MeshCore companion app on Android or iOS via Bluetooth. You can immediately start sending direct messages to anyone in range.
To connect with more people, join a local room server. Room servers are group communication hubs that store and forward messages, even for users who are temporarily offline.
Find Your Local Community
The European MeshCore community is most active in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, but new groups are forming across the continent.
Visit our community directory to find channels and groups in your country.
Help the Network Grow
Every device on the network improves coverage for everyone. If you want to make a bigger impact, consider deploying a repeater at elevation in your area. Even a single repeater on a hilltop or tall building can connect entire regions.
Welcome to the mesh.
